Meet our founder, Jose
Jose Cano was born in Ventura, CA and raised in Oxnard, CA. As an original member and cofounder of the LA based jarocho fusion band Las Cafeteras, he released 3 full length albums, many singles and collaborations and performed all over the US, Canada, Mexico as well as overseas in Australia, England and New Zealand where they shared the stage as direct support for bands such as Cafe Tacuba, Gypsy Kings, Ozomatli, Lila Downs, Juanes, Los Lobos, Michael Franti, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zero’s, Natalia La fourcade, Gaby Moreno, La Santa Cecilia, Chicano Batman, Carla Morisson, La Sonora Dinamita, Celso Pina, Lupita Infante and many more.
Throughout his career Jose has worked on records with a diverse group of producers, musicians, and engineers that include: David Garza, Sergio Mendoza, Wildog Abers, Eugene Toale, The Los Angeles Philharmonic and many more. Throughout the years he's done a lot of recording and producing artists such as Las Cafeteras, Hasta La Muerte, Quetzal Guerrero, Making Movies, Los Tranquilos, Anessa, Los Xiqueños and most recently his new project LaOx.
Sync music and tv/film projects include work with Ford, Telemundo, Freeform, Hulu on programs such as Mi Familia Perfecta, Bajo el Mismo Cielo, East Los High, Vida and Party of Five as well as movies such as Water and Power (by Richard Montoya), A little Family Drama (music supervisor Steve Berlin of Los Lobos), Honeyglue and America’s Family.
In addition to music performance and production Jose has remained committed to the arts in his hometown of Oxnard, CA where he still resides. He sits on the Oxnard Cultural Arts Commission, is an Honorary Board Member at the Oxnard Performing Arts Center and regularly advises many young up and coming local artists through a music industry speaking series that he hosts and curates called Insite In Sound. Previous guests have included Wildog Abers (Ozomatli), Eduardo Arenas (Chicano Batman), Lupita Infante, Mireya Ramos, Aaron Frazer (Duran Jones and the Indications) and many others.
